Urushito Glass is a new endeavor resulting from a collaboration of
handmade crafts out of Iwate Prefecture to the far east of Hons hu,
Japan’s main island, and Yamaguchi Prefecture, situated to the far
west.Urushito Glass combines the warmth of Japanese urushi and
the delicacy of glass. It represents the coupling of premium Ja panese
materials and detailed craftsmanship to create a new range of
tableware with a fresh appreciation of aesthetics hidden in simple
designs.
The town of Joboji in Iwate Prefecture is Japan’s leading producer of
urushi.
Tappers painstakingly gather each individual drop of the rare u rushi,
which is repeatedly applied to the surface in an age-old proces s to
carefully create each piece.
The color and shine that is unique to urushi gradually improves with age.
Hagi Glass is also a rare and unique studio, creating the glass in
one integrated process from the raw stone. The glass made by th e
studio is characterized by its high transparency and scratch re sistant
robustness. The unique fracture pattern that appears in the cra zed
glass produced by Hagi Glass Art Studio will gradually change o ver a
period of approximately three years, giving the glass a differe nt look
and feel.
Hagi Glass is a unique glass that provides a fresh outlook each time
you use it and provides a sense of fun and enjoyment as you wat ch it
change and grow together with you.

The Urushito Series presents a range of exciting, new products in tune
with modern day lifestyles that combine urushi, an attractive, natural
coating material and a variety of other mediums.
